Maele

Maele is a farm girl from Seris who is a victim of Project Second Sun. She received her pendant as a result of her artwork during a Hearthtide festival at age 10. At age 13, she became unable to walk. This progressed as her legs became covered in brown fur up to her waist. Her feet shifted up as her toes merged into hooves. A small deer tail grew as the fur spread till it covered her back and shoulders, leaving the white dots of a fawn. A piercing headache turned into antlers growing from her temples.

Once reported, the Golden Hand seized custody of her, blaming the transformation on her heresy. She was taken to the Drelvyndor Catacombs where she was interrogated and her biology and behavior studied. This culminated in a vivisection that she survived. Curious about further effects, the overseers of Project Second Sun had her pendent sealed around her neck and placed her in an observation cell.

Within the cell, she survived on the greens and vegetables provided (her palette had shifted), slept, and talked to Via in the adjacent cell. In dreams, The Torch Mother appears her and comforts her, stroking her hair and fur and humming as she assures Maele that her sister is coming, that she will not live in this cell forever.

Before her transformation and imprisonment, Maele was gregarious, humorous, and assertive.
