Gossamerflax

Gossamerflax is a relative of flax that is used for textiles that will be magically imbued. It is used by the Clergy of Cyridia, bards, elementalists, and other magical practitioners. It also is used for military applications and conspicuous consumption. Gossamerflax grows naturally in iria crystal rich soil. Cultivation of the species requires mixing iria crystal sand into the soil and therefore gossamerflax is extremely expensive. Therefore it is much more common to blend gossamerflax with linen. Members of the Triumvirate, wealthier members of the Greater Assembly, andarchpontifexes may don outfits of full gossamer linen.

Common enchantments for clerical robes include resistance to dirt and weather, fire resistance, and golden glows with spectral flames. Bards often use gossamerflax clothing to camouflage themselves or create small illusions such as butterflies, flames, or blossoms to accompany their performances. Elementalist uses include resistance to their favored elements as well as conducting ambient elemental energy for better stability and control. The Golden Hand and many militaries uses gossamerflax to create stab-, fire-, and shot-proof armor for officers and special operatives. The more powerful an enchanment is, the more gossamerflax must be used in the blend.

Other common items include gossamerflax sheets that repel insects, gossamerflax threads in airships to provide better tear resistance, clothing that better regulates body temperature, and clothing spotting minor illusions to accent an outfit. Infirmries that have the budget often invest in gossamerflax blankets that stimulate the natural healing processes of the body but these are expensive and rarely found outside urban centers.
