Glowsnight

Glowsnight is a holiday on the winter solstice commemorating Cyridia's battle with the Shivering King.

The Clergy of Cyridia often choose this holiday to forgive debts and offer pardons.

As with all Athvrean festivals, theater and music are central to its celebration. Theatrical productions are known for their integration of magic to achieve fantastic battles, both Cyridia's and others from Athvrean folklore. Musical performances tend to be instrumental and in a major key, accompanied by dances going long into the night. In anticipation, streets are cleared and festooned with ribbons and streamers in cool colors. The night culminates in fireworks displays.

Glass art featuring both fire and ice motifs is commonly sold during this festival. Matching glass pendants are often exchange as marriage proposals on this night. Axe and knife throwing competitions are a common occurence in imitation of the ranged battle over the mountains of Scara. Ceramic art is also popular during this festival.

Meals during the festival feature rice cakes soaked with alcohol. Seafood features heavily into the meals served on Glowsnight. The exact nature of the fish involved varies on what is locally available. However, heavily salted and smoked tuna is distributed everywhere. While consumed by Athvreans, this variety of tuna is considered disgusting by most foreigners who try it. Alcohol-soaked fruits are also served.
